Description

This is my entry for *a0ka0neArt's contest here: [link]

The theme is to draw her OCs, either as they are or completely re-imagined. So I saw Esther, and she intrigued me. Then I was looking through my sketchbook and found there was a mermaid sketch I hadn't used for anything and thought, 'Hmm, she could be a life-giving mermaid'. Esther has healing powers, you see. I tried to represent that in a small way as the piece of coral her hand is on is sprouting green moss, because she touched it, and the rest is brown.

I experimented with coloring again with the help of one of my favourite GIMP artists *dCTb. (second only to *Griatch-art). This is probably the most involved picture I've done in awhile. Yes, there are anatomy mistakes, but hey, she's a mythical creature. ;P

Anyways, go enter, there's plenty of categories available, the OCs are interesting, and the prizes are good. :D

I hope I place well. :happybounce:

I like the colours of this; the faint light rays work well and give a proper feeling of deep water. Nice flow of the hair and the ends of her shirt too, you might possibly add even more loose strands to show that the hair is free-floating about her. Overall this gives me a feeling of old-style anime, where the characters often were long and thin, so eventual anatomical issues I rather read as a stylistic choice here. She looks confident and sure of herself too.

Nice concept, hope you placed well in that contest. :)
